“A teacher can inspire hope, ignite the imagination, and instill a love of learning” – Brad Henry
When choosing a quote that reflected my teaching philosophy, I desired to find something that was self-reflective in nature of who I am. I wanted my quote to reflect my own beliefs regarding both teaching and learning. Upon finding this quote, I could not get it out of my head. This quote embodies so much of who I want to become as an educator. In this age and society, information is abundant. Information and facts can be obtained with a few seconds of Google searching. I believe that the role of a teacher is changing. I believe that the role of a teacher is to help guide and shape students and their identities into something truly positive. Helping someone find a sense of positive identity is not something that can simply be found on Google, it is something that must be fostered by individuals that can inspire students to become who they are truly meant to be. The reason I wanted to become a teacher is to inspire this sense of hope, imagination and growth of people. Students spend a vast majority of their life learning and developing within the walls of a classroom. The teacher is often the role model within all these students lives, and there is a lot of responsibility that comes with that. A teacher should build a relationship of trust and respect with their students, laying the foundation for both the development of personal growth and learning. All in all, I aim to be the best teacher that I can possibly be. A teacher that can instill the hope and imagination needed to find a love for learning.
